New organizational structure for NCCS Committee

Work teams will play a key role

The National Campus Championship Series (NCCS) Committee will take on a new look beginning June 1, 2008, upon the completion of all NCCS events for the 2007-2008 academic year. The committee will undergo an organizational change in an effort to improve and enhance the oversight and consistency of all events and the NCCS brand.

After two years of operating the NCCS, Extramurals, and Sport Club Championship Committees in collaboration with each other, the NIRSA Services Corporation (NSC) Board agreed to support a structure that resulted in consolidating the Extramural and Sport Club Championship Committees. In their place, the NCCS Committee will oversee various aspects of all sports.

Specifically, each sport (basketball, flag football, soccer, tennis, and volleyball) will have one NCCS Committee member and a work team for support, which will report to the committee Vice Chair. The Past Chair will provide support to the committee members who oversee assessment, professional development, standards of competition, and brand management. All told, the committee will consist of the Chair, a Vice Chair, the Past Chair, and nine members (with area-specific work teams). The Chair of the committee will continue to report to the NSC Board, via its board liaison and the NIRSA National Center.

This structure recognizes the importance of our championship series and stresses continued collaboration among all committee members, the NIRSA National Center, and the NSC Board. An important feature of this structure is the addition of work teams, which will provide further membership support of our events.

An NCCS Committee guiding principle is to operate in a transparent fashion, and one of its first action items will be to develop procedures that integrate this principle with NIRSA’s standards for placement on either the work teams or committee. It is important that all interested members be given an equal opportunity to serve NIRSA through professional development opportunities afforded by the NCCS Committee and the NCCS work teams.
