NCCSPrize packages to be awarded at NIRSA NCCS Regional Flag Football Championships

Travel stipends will help winning teams compete in the National Championships

Regional winners in men’s, women’s and co-rec divisions at the eight NIRSA Regional Flag Football Championships will receive an award package to assist with their travels to the NIRSA NCCS National Flag Football Championships. Regional winners and runner ups automatically qualify for nationals and will receive complimentary registration. The NIRSA Regional and National Flag Football Championships are part of the National Campus Championship Series.

Regional host sites from Oklahoma State University, University of Southern Mississippi, and Southeast Missouri State University will also award a $750 travel stipend prize package to divisional winners. Regional host sites from Washington State University, The Ohio State University, Cornell University, Arizona State University, and University of Maryland will award a $1,400 travel stipend prize package to divisional winners. To claim prizes, there must be at least four teams competing per division. Teams will receive their prize package after their first game at the National Championships, hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas January 4-7, 2007.

Recently, Oklahoma State University stepped up to host in Region IV, meaning all eight extramural regions will have a Regional Flag Football Championship for the first time since 1999.

“I’m very excited to have a full roster of eight NIRSA regional flag football tournaments, each with an outstanding crew of NIRSA professionals dedicated to creating national caliber events for our students. I appreciate the hard work of the Extramural Committee, as well as the schools that answered the call to serve,” said Extramural Chair Chad Ellsworth, Arizona State University.

In addition to first-place teams at each regional receiving assistance to compete at nationals, four officials per regional will also be invited to the NIRSA NCCS National Flag Football Championships and receive a $150 travel stipend.

The “Road to Dallas” kicks off October 27-29, as Washington State University hosts their Regional Flag Football Championships. The last day for team registrations for the Washington State Regional is October 23. To register or for more tournament details click here. A listing of all eight NIRSA Regional Championships and contact information for each is available on the NIRSA website.

“All of us involved appreciate the support of the NSC and the NIRSA Board and look forward to an outstanding series of regional tournaments and the NIRSA National Flag Football Championships,” said Ellsworth.
