NIRSA Members unite to make the most of marketing opportunities

Protocol of Mutual Interest now includes over 150 member institutions

Need proof that there’s strength in numbers? Consider two facts:

  • Last January, NIRSA reached agreement with IMG World Wide to become NIRSA’s authorized agent for its sponsorship and marketing programs, offering potential sponsors year-round promotional platforms through NIRSA events.
  • The Fall 2005 Sports Illustrated on Campus Magazine (SIOC) pilot distribution program delivered an impressive national footprint for SIOC and brought in $300,000 to the Association, $222,000 of which was distributed back to the 150 participating institutions.

In both cases, the Protocol of Mutual Interest, now signed by over 150 NIRSA member institutions, was instrumental in securing these partnerships. The Protocol has demonstrated to the corporate world that NIRSA Members are unified, supportive of NIRSA and NIRSA Services Corporation (NSC) marketing efforts, and will step up and enthusiastically deliver on a national level. For a list of current signatories, and more information on the Protocol of Mutual Interest, go to the NIRSA website.

One area of growing interest to potential sponsors is NIRSA's extramural and sport club championship tournaments. Under the umbrella of the National Campus Championship Series (NCCS), these events have become the “official” championships of collegiate recreational sports. The NCCS is the only campus non-varsity sports series that supports NIRSA’s dedication to fostering student development, commitment to the larger learning community, and emphasis on leadership and excellence in events of this type.

The NSC Board of Directors is convinced that our marketing initiatives are on the right track, and that the Protocol is just one of many steps we must take together to achieve our collective goals.

If you have any questions about the Protocol, contact Barry Brown at 541-766-8211 x13.
