The NSRSM Level I course is designed for professionals with one to five years of experience, and is taught by six faculty members who possess a wealth of recreational sports program management experience. This year’s NSRSM faculty were:

  • Dr. Julie Wallace Carr, Chair, James Madison University

  • Loretta Capra, CRSS, Colorado State University
  • Dr. Nancy Chrystal-Green, CRSS, University of Florida
  • Rob Frye, CRSS, Florida International University
  • Juliette Moore, CRSS, University of Arizona

Course topics included conflict resolution, promotability, professional communication, budgeting, professional ethics, marketing, technology, university politics and more. Participants demonstrated an understanding of the knowledge and strategies learned from each topic session through collaboration with other attendees throughout the four-day event.

Here’s what some of the members who attended had to say about the school:

“Over the years, I have heard wonderful things about NSRSM. This week lived up to and far exceeded any and all expectations I had. I learned so much from NSRSM—not only from the dynamic and insightful faculty members, but also from my peers. I will highly recommend this program to all my co-workers.” — Stacy Smith, University of Virginia

“Overall, I thought the school was extremely beneficial and useful for all young recreation professionals. It was a great opportunity for learning, sharing ideas, and networking. I really enjoyed it and made many new friends.” — Bhavin Parekh, University of Connecticut

“The NSRSM was such a great opportunity to meet others in my field and build friendships with colleagues throughout the country. It was an awesome experience and I'm so glad I was able to attend!” — Jen Miracle, Central Michigan University

“The NSRSM is a unique learning environment and professional development experience. It is a great atmosphere in a cohesive group learning environment.” — Bob Miller, CRSS, University of Texas at San Antonio
