2005 SoCal Golf Scramble Increases Student Funding

The 12th annual SoCal Scramble Golf Tournament on June 24 at Coyote Hills Golf Club in Fullerton, CA, raised more than $5,000 in student scholarship funds, thus entering the record books as the most successful in the event's history. Since the first SoCal Scramble, more than $33,000 has been raised to support the NIRSA Region VI scholarship fund and other activities, including the Student Lead On and state workshops. Also on tournament day, Bert Gonzalez, University of Southern California, was named the first winner of three student scholarships for the NIRSA Region VI Conference, and the SoCal Scramble Committee announced the establishment of a $500 California student travel fund.

This year's SoCal field included numerous professionals and students from California-area colleges and universities, as well as a team from Arizona State University. Based on a four person scramble format, the event included pre-tournament putting, chipping and long drive contests. For a complete listing of the results, visit CGA or USC Golf Club.

A large factor in the success of the tournament was due to tremendous support from the sponsors: Frontier Pro Shop, Collegiate Golf Alliance, Advantage Fitness Products, Winzler & Kelly, Lundstrom & Associates, Simovich & Sons Construction, A to Z Glass & Mirror, Sterling Design and the "Julie and Cindy" talk show. Participating tee sponsors included California State University (San Marcos), University of Nevada (Las Vegas), University of California (San Diego), UCLA, University of Southern California, Oregon State University, Loyola Marymount University, University of California (Irvine), and Sonoma State University.
